Technical University of Munich (TUM) aims to further increase the number of spin-offs from science. At the same time, the proportion of women founders is to be increased significantly by 2030. TUM Female Founders was created for this purpose. TUM Female Founders aims to create synergies together with UnternehmerTUM and TUM Venture Labs and promote women in the Munich ecosystem.

The initial situation: In the winter semester 2021/2022 24% of all students (bachelor’s and master’s) and 39% all doctoral students at TUM were female. However, the proportion of female founders was only 11%.

In the sense of the cascade model and in line with the proportion of female doctoral students, this figure is to be increased to 39% by 2030 and to 32% in the medium term by 2027.

Indirectly, this should increase the number of spin-offs from science.

One measure is the EXIST Women pilot project of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK), now for the first time at TUM. The support program is aimed specifically at female founders and female entrepreneurs in Germany.

It offers financial support, qualification and awareness programs, as well as mentoring to support women in all phases of the start-up process, from idea generation to market launch and scaling their business.
