Jan Ert­mann joi­n­ed the team from TUM Inter­na­tio­nal in May 2025. His back­ground in busi­ness, edu­ca­ti­on and the huma­ni­ties, com­ple­men­ted by exten­si­ve inter­na­tio­nal expo­sure throug­hout his aca­de­mic and pro­fes­sio­nal care­er allows him to effec­tively com­bi­ne edu­ca­ti­on, social com­mit­ment and busi­ness acu­men.

Jan Ert­mann stu­di­ed Com­pa­ra­ti­ve Reli­gious Stu­dies and Phi­lo­so­phy at Lan­cas­ter Uni­ver­si­ty, UK (B.A. Hons.), which also enab­led him to spend a term at Dhar­ma­ram Vidya Kshe­tram, Dhar­ma­ram Col­lege, Banga­lo­re, India. He sub­se­quent­ly obtai­ned a Mas­ter of Sci­ence in Busi­ness and Eco­no­mics with a focus on Sales and Manage­ment at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Appli­ed Sci­en­ces Neu-Ulm. An exch­an­ge semes­ter at the Uni­ver­si­dad de Gua­d­a­la­ja­ra in Mexi­co and a stu­dy visit to Nai­ro­bi, Kenya, as part of his mar­ket rese­arch for his Mas­ter’s the­sis sup­ple­men­ted his aca­de­mic edu­ca­ti­on.

He work­ed in the social sec­tor in New Delhi, India, for almost two years. He then gai­ned valuable pedago­gi­cal expe­ri­ence as an Eng­lish tea­cher at the begin­ning of his pro­fes­sio­nal care­er and during his stu­dies. After­wards he gai­ned exten­si­ve sales expe­ri­ence for more than ten years — from direct sales to manage­ment, lea­ding a team of five employees. His focus was always on the inter­face bet­ween edu­ca­ti­on, social com­mit­ment and tech­no­lo­gi­cal inno­va­ti­on. Most recent­ly, he work­ed as a pro­ject mana­ger at Stein­beis, whe­re he mana­ged EU-fun­ded edu­ca­ti­on pro­jects and led and coor­di­na­ted an EU pro­ject with a focus on inno­va­ti­on in Afri­ca.
