Working Student – Marketing & Communications(m/f/d)

Working Student | 10–20 hours per week | Munich | Starting date: October 2026 or later

Do you want to tell the story of how world-class technical education is built — and get real ownership of marketing while you study?

Who We Are

TUM International GmbH (TUMint) is the international arm of the Technical University of

Munich (TUM), Europe’s leading technical university. Together with visionary partners from academia, industry, and the public sector, we build new education and innovation hubs around the world.

TUMint brings the strength of the Munich ecosystem — research excellence, startups, global corporates, and public institutions — into our projects. Our work is interdisciplinary and fast-moving, delivering world-class technology education programmes and innovation hubs that create lasting impact in emerging and high-growth markets.

What We Do

Our projects span from designing and launching new educational programmes at partner universities, to building innovation ecosystems, supporting technology entrepreneurship, and developing institutional capacity in our partner countries.

All of this needs to be communicated — to prospective students, to partner universities, to ministries, to industry, and to the TUM community. That is where you come in.

The Role

We are looking for a creative, reliable, and hands-on working student to support TUMint’s marketing and communications work. You will produce content that goes out under the TUMint and TUM name, and you will see the results of your work in real campaigns, at real events, and in front of real audiences.

You will work closely with our project teams and the management, get insight into international education projects, and take ownership of your own topics from day one. We are happy to shape the focus of the role around your strengths and your study schedule — 10 to 20 hours per week, flexibly arranged around your lectures and exam periods.

Your Tasks

Social Media & Content

  • Create, schedule, and publish content for TUMint’s channels — primarily LinkedIn, plus Instagram and our website.
  • Write and proofread copy in German and English: posts, news items, newsletters, programme descriptions, and short interviews with colleagues, partners, and students.
  • Support our editorial calendar — collect stories from ongoing projects and turn them into publishable content.
  • Support in maintaining and updating our website using WordPress.
  • Take and edit photos and short video clips at events and in the office, and build simple video edits or reels.

Events & Recruiting Marketing

  • Support the planning, preparation, and follow-up of events, information sessions, delegation visits, and partner events.
  • Help produce campaign material for recruitment for TUMint Academy programmes — flyers, landing page content, mailings, and social ads.
  • Assist on site at events in and around Munich: setup, material handling, guest support, and on-the-spot social media coverage.
  • Prepare event documentation and short reports for internal use.

Design & Brand Assets

  • Design and adapt marketing assets — presentations, brochures, one-pagers, roll-ups, and social media templates — with Canva and/or the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Keep our templates, image library, and asset folders tidy, current, and easy for colleagues to use.
  • Help safeguard brand consistency across TUMint materials and ensure alignment with design guidelines.

Analytics, & Marketing Operations

  • Track website and social media performance and prepare simple, readable monthly reporting on reach, engagement, and campaign results.
  • Maintain mailing lists and contact data, and support the preparation and dispatch of newsletters.
  • Carry out light market and competitor research on international education marketing, and summarise your findings for the team.

What We Are Looking For

Academic Background

The following is required — we’re only able to consider applications that meet these criteria:

  • Currently enrolled at a university in Germany for the entire duration of the position (Werkstudent status requires active enrolment).
  • TUM students are especially welcome to apply. Familiarity with TUM’s academic culture, structures, and brand is a genuine advantage in this role — as is having completed a TUM Bachelor’s degree and continuing in a TUM Master’s programme.
  • Field of study: Marketing, Communications, Media, Business Administration, Management & Technology, or a comparable programme. Students from technical disciplines with demonstrable marketing experience are equally welcome.
  • Language: German at C1 level or above (you will write publishable German copy) and fluent English (working language of our projects). Additional languages are a welcome bonus.
  • Availability: 10–20 hours per week, on site in Munich for at least part of the week, ideally for a minimum of six months.

Experience

  • First practical experience in marketing, communications, PR, or an agency environment — through an internship, a previous working student position, or a student initiative.
  • Hands-on experience running or contributing to social media channels, ideally including LinkedIn and Instagram in a professional or organisational context.
  • Experience with Canva and/or Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere) is a strong advantage.
  • Exposure to a CMS (e.g. WordPress or TYPO3), a newsletter tool (e.g. Mailchimp or CleverReach), or web and social analytics is a plus.
  • Any experience in an international or intercultural setting — a semester abroad, an international student organisation, or work with international teams — is very welcome.

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong writing skills — you can adapt tone and register between a LinkedIn post, a ministry-facing brochure, and a student newsletter.
  • A good eye for design, layout, and visual detail; you notice when something looks off and you fix it.
  • Structured and reliable working style: you meet deadlines, keep files in order, and follow up without being reminded.
  • Proactive and curious — you bring your own ideas rather than waiting for a task list, and you are comfortable asking questions.
  • Careful and discreet in handling internal information, partner contacts, and personal data.
  • A team player who enjoys working with people from many countries and academic backgrounds.
  • Motivated by mission — you believe that access to excellent engineering education can change countries, not just careers.

Why Join TUMint?

  • Real responsibility from the start — your content goes live, your designs get used, and your ideas are heard.
  • Insight into international education and innovation projects at the interface of one of the world’s top technical universities, governments, and industry.
  • Flexible hours designed around your studies, including reduced workload during exam periods, and the option to work partly remotely.
  • A small, international, and mission-driven team where you are a colleague, not a number.
  • A strong reference and a portfolio of published work for your CV, plus access to TUM’s research and entrepreneurship network in Munich.
  • Fair compensation in line with TUM standards for working students, and the professional environment of a TUM-affiliated institution.
